The Story Unfolds

When Cornershop burst on to the music scene in 1997 with the Brit award for Song of the Year, I had just hit a half century and life, though full of twists and turns, was still a bed of roses with a couple of thorns in her side!

The world had lost two colossal icons Britain’s Princess Diana and the Nobel Laureate, Mother Teresa, whose work in the slums of Calcutta to help the poor, sick and the dying was unparalleled.

Brimful of Asha is a song by British alternative rock band Cornershop from their third album, “When I was born for the 7th time” (1997). Released on 18th August 1997 – Genre: Indie rock, Britpop. The song is based on film culture in India. Singing is almost always performed by background singers while the cast lip sync. In this particular case, Asha Bhosle, a playback singer who has broken most records has sung over 12000 songs, some with her elder sister Lata Mangeshkar.

I have lived in Dubai since 1978 and when I look back over the years anecdotes flood the mind. One stands by itself as a classic but Asha has reached the brim – that is a story for another day.
